Otocinclus Dwarf Sucker Catfish Macrotocinclus Affinis 2cm

Overview: The Otocinclus Dwarf Sucker Catfish (Macrotocinclus affinis) is a charming, diminutive freshwater catfish sought after for its algae-eating prowess and peaceful demeanor. With its endearing appearance and beneficial habits, it’s a delightful addition to any planted aquarium.

Origin: Hailing from South America, particularly the Amazon River basin, these catfish thrive in slow-moving, well-oxygenated waters rich in vegetation.

Feeding: Primarily herbivorous, these catfish have a penchant for grazing on algae-covered surfaces. Supplement their diet with sinking algae wafers, blanched vegetables like zucchini or cucumber, and occasional live or frozen foods like bloodworms or brine shrimp.

Tank Mates: Otocinclus Catfish are peaceful companions, best suited for community tanks alongside similarly peaceful species such as tetras, rasboras, dwarf cichlids, and peaceful bottom-dwellers like Corydoras.

Aggression: Known for their tranquil nature, they’re non-aggressive and make excellent tank inhabitants, rarely causing issues with tank mates.

Experience Level: While not overly demanding, these catfish are best suited for aquarists with some experience due to their sensitivity to water conditions. Attention to water quality and diet is crucial for their well-being.

Water Parameters: Maintain stable water conditions with temperatures between 72-78°F (22-26°C), a pH range of 6.8-7.5, and moderate water flow. Provide ample hiding places among plants or decorations to accommodate their shy nature.
