Granulosus Catfish Synodontis Granulosus 3cm

Overview: The Granulosus Catfish, also known as Synodontis Granulosus, is a unique and captivating species prized by aquarium enthusiasts for its distinctive appearance and engaging behavior. This species is known for its granulated texture, with a sleek, mottled body that ranges in color from dark browns to greys, complemented by its intricate fin patterns. Growing up to 6 inches in length, the Granulosus Catfish is a moderate-sized fish that adds a touch of elegance and mystery to any freshwater tank.

Origin: Native to the Congo River Basin in Africa, Synodontis Granulosus thrives in a range of freshwater environments. Their natural habitat is characterized by soft, sandy or muddy bottoms where they can hide and forage, making them well-suited to a similarly structured aquarium setting.

Feeding: As omnivores, Granulosus Catfish have a varied diet in the wild, which should be replicated in captivity to ensure their health and wellbeing. A combination of high-quality sinking pellets, freeze-dried bloodworms, and brine shrimp will provide the necessary nutrients. Vegetables such as zucchini slices can also be offered occasionally to diversify their diet.

Tank Mates: Synodontis Granulosus is generally peaceful, making it a good candidate for a community tank. However, due to their size and activity level, they should be housed with mid to large-sized fish that are not overly aggressive or territorial. Ideal tank mates include larger tetras, barbs, and other Synodontis species. It’s essential to avoid housing them with very small fish that could be mistaken for prey.

Aggression: While generally peaceful, the Granulosus Catfish can display territorial behavior, especially towards other bottom dwellers. Providing plenty of hiding spots such as caves, driftwood, and plants can help minimize aggression by allowing individuals to establish their own territories within the tank.

Experience Level: Suitable for intermediate to advanced aquarists, Synodontis Granulosus requires a bit of experience due to their specific care needs. Knowledge of tank cycling, water quality management, and dietary requirements is essential for keeping them healthy.

Water Parameters: To mimic their natural environment, the water in the aquarium should be soft to moderately hard, with a pH range of 6.5 to 7.5, and temperatures maintained between 72°F to 79°F (22°C to 26°C). Regular water changes and good filtration are crucial to keep the water clean and oxygen-rich.

In conclusion, the Granulosus Catfish is a fascinating addition to any suitable aquarium, offering a glimpse into the diversity of African river ecosystems. With proper care and attention to their specific needs, they can be a rewarding species for dedicated aquarists looking to add some intrigue to their aquatic world.
