Pahang Sapphire Blue Crossback Arowana Scleropages formosus 20cm

Overview: The Malaysian Pahang Sapphire Blue Crossback Arowana is a prestigious and highly sought-after freshwater fish, known for its vibrant sapphire blue coloration across its back and the majestic gliding movement through the water. This variety of Arowana is renowned not just for its beauty but also for its symbolism of wealth and prosperity in many cultures.

Origin: Native to the clean, flowing rivers and streams of the Pahang region in Malaysia, this Arowana thrives in environments that closely mimic its natural habitat. Its unique coloration is a result of selective breeding, making it a rare gem among fish enthusiasts.

Feeding: A carnivorous species, the Sapphire Blue Crossback Arowana prefers a diet rich in protein. Feeding should consist of live or frozen foods such as shrimp, small fish, and occasionally, insects. Consistent feeding of high-quality, nutrient-rich foods is essential for maintaining its vibrant coloration and overall health.

Tank Mates: Choosing the right tank mates is crucial, as Arowanas are known for their territorial nature. Compatible species include large, peaceful fish that can hold their own without provoking aggression. Avoid small fish that could be mistaken for prey.

Aggression: This species exhibits a moderate level of aggression, primarily towards smaller fish or those of similar shape and size. It is recommended to monitor interactions closely when introducing new tank mates.

Experience Level: Due to its specific care requirements and potential size, the Malaysian Pahang Sapphire Blue Crossback Arowana is best suited for intermediate to advanced aquarists. Successful keeping requires a commitment to maintaining water quality and tank conditions.

Water Parameters:

  • Temperature: 75°F to 86°F (24°C to 30°C)
  • pH: 6.5 to 7.5
  • Water Hardness: 5 to 15 dGH A spacious tank with a minimum capacity of 250 gallons is necessary to accommodate their size and swimming needs. Regular water changes, proper filtration, and a well-secured lid are essential, as Arowanas are powerful jumpers.

In conclusion, the Malaysian Pahang Sapphire Blue Crossback Arowana is a stunning addition to any large, well-maintained aquarium. Its care requires a dedicated aquarist willing to meet its specific needs, but the reward is a truly breathtaking specimen that captivates all who see it.
