Description
Wild Red Goniopora Hard Coral
The Wild Red Goniopora Hard Coral is a large polyp stony coral that originates from the Indo-Pacific region. It has long, flowing polyps that are an intense metallic red color with a bright purplish-blue center. Goniopora corals are photosynthetic and derive some of their nutrients from a symbiotic relationship with zooxanthellae algae. They also filter-feed on nutrients in the water column, so it is recommended to provide them with additional foods like microplankton. Goniopora are considered moderately aggressive corals and will use their sweeper tentacles to sting and damage nearby corals if they encroach on its space. It is important to provide ample room for the Goniopora to grow, with a recommended placement of 2-3 inches from other corals. This coral is recommended for intermediate to advanced reef aquarium hobbyists, as it can be challenging to keep long-term. It requires stable water parameters, including a pH of 8.0-8.4, nitrates of 5-10 ppm, phosphates of 0.05-0.1 ppm, alkalinity of 8-9 dKH, and calcium of 400-450 ppm. Moderate water flow and moderate lighting of 100-150 PAR are also necessary for the Goniopora to thrive. Overall, the Wild Red Goniopora is a stunning and unique coral that can make a beautiful addition to an experienced reef aquarium, but requires careful attention to water parameters and placement to ensure its long-term success.
