Callochromis Melanostigma Tanganyikan African Cichlids 4cm

Overview: The Callochromis Melanostigma is a striking cichlid from Lake Tanganyika, celebrated for its vibrant colors and dynamic behavior. With its shimmering scales and active nature, this species adds both beauty and energy to any aquarium setting.

Origin: Originating from the sandy and rocky shorelines of Lake Tanganyika in East Africa, Callochromis Melanostigma thrives in clear, deep waters. They are well adapted to environments with sandy substrates where they can sift through the sand in search of food.

Feeding: These cichlids are omnivorous, with a diet consisting of small invertebrates and plant matter. In captivity, they should be provided with a varied diet that includes high-quality flake foods, pellets, and live or frozen foods such as brine shrimp, bloodworms, and daphnia. A diverse diet helps maintain their vibrant coloration and overall health.

Tank Mates: Callochromis Melanostigma are moderately peaceful and can be housed with other Tanganyikan cichlids. Suitable tank mates include species such as Julidochromis, Neolamprologus, and Altolamprologus. It’s best to avoid keeping them with overly aggressive or significantly larger cichlids to prevent stress and aggression.

Aggression: While generally peaceful, Callochromis Melanostigma can exhibit moderate aggression, particularly males during breeding. They are best kept in species-specific tanks or with other peaceful to semi-aggressive Tanganyikan cichlids. Providing plenty of space and hiding spots helps reduce territorial disputes.

Experience Level: Intermediate. Though not particularly difficult to care for, Callochromis Melanostigma require stable water conditions and a well-maintained environment, making them more suitable for aquarists with some experience in keeping cichlid aquariums.

Water Parameters: To ensure optimal health, maintain water temperatures between 75-82°F (24-28°C), a pH of 7.8-9.0, and a hardness of 10-20 dGH. Regular water changes and careful monitoring of water quality are crucial to maintain these conditions.

In summary, the Callochromis Melanostigma is a vibrant and active Tanganyikan cichlid that enhances any aquarium with its stunning appearance and lively behavior. With appropriate care and attention to their specific needs, they can be a rewarding addition for intermediate aquarists seeking to enrich their tank with diverse and colorful species.
