Black Spotted Corydoras Catfish Corydoras Melanistius 3cm

Overview: The Black Spotted Corydoras Catfish, scientifically known as Corydoras melanistius, is a small, peaceful, and popular freshwater species known for its distinctive black spots and active bottom-dwelling behavior. This hardy and easy-to-care-for catfish is a great addition to community aquariums, where it helps keep the substrate clean by scavenging for leftover food.

Origin: Native to the slow-moving rivers and floodplains of South America, particularly in regions like the Amazon Basin, the Black Spotted Corydoras thrives in soft, acidic waters with sandy or muddy substrates. Their natural habitat includes areas with dense vegetation and leaf litter.

Feeding: Black Spotted Corydoras are omnivores that enjoy a varied diet. They should be fed a combination of high-quality sinking pellets or wafers, along with live or frozen foods such as bloodworms, daphnia, and brine shrimp. They also appreciate occasional vegetable matter like blanched spinach or zucchini.

Tank Mates: These peaceful fish are best kept in groups of five or more to encourage natural shoaling behavior and reduce stress. They are compatible with other small, non-aggressive community fish such as tetras, rasboras, small gouramis, and other Corydoras species. Avoid housing them with large or aggressive species that may pose a threat.

Aggression: Black Spotted Corydoras are non-aggressive and social fish that do well in community tanks. They spend most of their time foraging along the bottom of the tank and get along well with other peaceful tank mates.

Experience Level: Beginner. The Black Spotted Corydoras is hardy, adaptable, and easy to care for, making it an excellent choice for both novice and experienced aquarists. Their peaceful nature and manageable care requirements contribute to their popularity in freshwater aquariums.

Water Parameters: To keep Black Spotted Corydoras healthy, maintain water temperatures between 72-79°F (22-26°C), a pH of 6.0-7.5, and soft to moderately hard water (2-12 dGH). A tank with a soft, sandy substrate, gentle water flow, and plenty of hiding spots, such as plants or caves, will help them thrive.

In summary, the Black Spotted Corydoras Catfish is a delightful, easy-to-care-for species that adds activity and charm to any community aquarium. Their peaceful demeanor, attractive appearance, and role in keeping the tank clean make them a valuable addition to a wide range of setups.
