Description

L24 Red Fin Cactus Pleco Pseudacanthicus Pitanga

Overview: The L24 Red Fin Cactus Pleco, scientifically known as Pseudacanthicus Pitanga, is a striking and rare species in the aquarium trade. Renowned for its vibrant red fins contrasting against a dark, almost black body, this Pleco adds a touch of elegance and mystery to any tank. Growing up to 12 inches in length, they are robust and have a unique armored appearance, making them a fascinating specimen for enthusiasts.

Origin: Native to the fast-flowing rivers and tributaries of Brazil, the L24 Red Fin Cactus Pleco thrives in environments with strong currents. Their natural habitat consists of rocky substrates where they can find shelter and graze on biofilm and algae.

Feeding: Primarily omnivorous, the L24 requires a varied diet to stay healthy. Offer a mix of high-quality sinking pellets, frozen or live foods such as bloodworms, and occasional vegetable matter. Their diet should be rich in protein but balanced with greens to mimic their natural feeding habits.

Tank Mates: Choosing the right tank mates is crucial due to their size and territorial nature. They do well with larger, peaceful fish or similarly sized plecos that won’t compete for hiding spots. Avoid small, aggressive fish that could nip at the Pleco’s fins or overly shy species that could be outcompeted for food.

Aggression: The L24 Red Fin Cactus Pleco is relatively peaceful but can become territorial, especially towards other bottom-dwellers. Providing ample hiding places and a spacious tank can minimize aggression, allowing for a harmonious community.

Experience Level: Due to their specific care requirements and potential size, the L24 is best suited for intermediate to advanced aquarists. Knowledge in maintaining pristine water conditions and managing a balanced diet is essential for their wellbeing.

Water Parameters:

  • Temperature: 77-82°F (25-28°C)
  • pH: 6.5-7.5
  • Hardness: 5-15 dGH
  • Strong water flow and excellent filtration are a must to replicate their natural riverine habitat.

Proper care and attention to the L24 Red Fin Cactus Pleco’s needs will ensure it thrives, providing years of enjoyment and a captivating view into the natural beauty of the Amazonian rivers.
