Description
10 x Mirror Carp Cyprinus Carpio
Overview: The Mirror Carp is a unique and distinctive variant of the common carp, known for its large, irregular and reflective scales, which give it a “mirrored” appearance. These freshwater fish are popular among aquarium enthusiasts for their striking appearance and size, which can reach up to 60 pounds and over 40 inches in length in the wild. They are typically less common in aquariums due to their large size.
Origin: Native to Europe and Asia, Mirror Carp have been widely introduced around the world. They were initially bred for their altered scale pattern in Europe and have since become popular in various forms of carp fishing and outdoor ponds.
Feeding: As omnivores, Mirror Carp require a balanced diet including high-quality pellet or flake foods, along with occasional offerings of live or frozen foods like worms, crustaceans, and insects. Vegetables like peas and lettuce can also be included in their diet.
Tank Mates: Due to their size, Mirror Carp are best suited for large ponds rather than typical home aquariums. In ponds, they can coexist with other large, peaceful fish. Avoid keeping them with small fish as they may be seen as prey.
Aggression: Generally peaceful, Mirror Carp are more focused on foraging than aggression. However, their size can be intimidating to smaller tank mates, and they may accidentally harm smaller fish.
Experience Level: Mirror Carp are best suited for advanced aquarists or pond keepers due to their size and the large environments they require. They are not recommended for standard home aquariums.
Water Parameters: Mirror Carp thrive in a wide range of conditions but prefer pond or lake environments. Ideal water conditions include a temperature range of 17-24°C (63-75°F), pH levels between 6.5 and 9.0, and moderate hardness. Regular water changes and filtration are important to maintain water quality, especially in smaller pond setups.
