Species description
The basic colouring Melanotaenia ammeri are yellow stripes alternating with blue-grey stripes. The males are again higher back than the females and more coloured in colour. The first dorsal fin of the male rests on the second dorsal fin. The females do not have this long first dorsal fin. This species was named “ammeri” in honour of Max Ammer of Sorong, West Papua.
Habitat
Melanotaenia ammeri was discovered in a small stream in the northern part of Arguni Bay near Gusimawa village. The stream was about 2.50 m wide and 0.5 m deep. The bottom of the stream consists of sand, gravel and old wood on it
As this fish is such a recent find there is not much information about them just yet.
