Black Chinned Xenotilapia Enantiopus Melanogenys Kasanga 8cm

Overview

The Black Chinned Xenotilapia Enantiopus Melanogenys Kasanga is a stunning and relatively rare cichlid, cherished for its unique appearance and interesting behavior. With its vibrant colors and peaceful nature, it makes a captivating addition to any aquarium.

Origin

This particular species originates from the sandy shores of Lake Tanganyika in Africa. They thrive in environments that mimic their natural habitat, with plenty of sandy substrates and rocks for hiding.

Feeding

The Black Chinned Xenotilapia is primarily a micro-predator, feeding on tiny organisms in their natural habitat. In the aquarium, they will do well on a varied diet consisting of high-quality cichlid pellets, brine shrimp, daphnia, and other small live or frozen foods. It’s important to provide a balanced diet to ensure their health and coloration.

Tank Mates

Given their peaceful nature, they should be housed with other non-aggressive Lake Tanganyika cichlids or similarly sized and tempered fish. Avoid housing them with highly aggressive or much larger species to prevent stress and potential harm.

Aggression

This species exhibits minimal aggression and is often more timid. They are best kept in groups to help distribute any minor aggression and to encourage natural behaviors.

Experience Level

Due to their specific care requirements and sensitivity to water quality, the Black Chinned Xenotilapia is recommended for intermediate to advanced aquarists. Proper knowledge of their dietary needs and environmental parameters is crucial for their well-being.

Water Parameters

  • Temperature: 76-80°F (24-27°C)
  • pH: 8.0-9.0
  • Hardness: 10-20 dGH
  • It is vital to maintain stable water conditions with minimal fluctuations, as they can be sensitive to changes in their environment.

The Black Chinned Xenotilapia Enantiopus Melanogenys Kasanga is a rewarding species for the dedicated aquarist, offering both beauty and a glimpse into the complex ecosystems of Lake Tanganyika. Proper care and attention to their needs will ensure they thrive in your aquarium, providing a serene and engaging experience.
