Brown Scopas Tang Zebrasoma Scopas

The Scopas Tang, also known as the Brown Tang or Twotone Tang, is a striking and popular addition to marine aquariums. Originating from the Indo-Pacific region, this species exhibits a highly variable coloration ranging from shades of gray, brown, yellow, and white, with some specimens even being solid yellow or black. The Scopas Tang is an herbivorous fish that requires a diet primarily consisting of marine algae and seaweed to maintain its health, coloration, and immune system. In the aquarium, it will graze on algae growing on live rock and can also be fed dried seaweed, spirulina, and other vegetable-based foods. This species is generally peaceful but can be semi-aggressive towards other tangs and fish with similar body shapes. It is recommended to introduce the Scopas Tang last to the aquarium and avoid keeping it with other Zebrasoma tangs, as they may establish a territorial hierarchy. The Scopas Tang requires a well-established aquarium of at least 125 gallons with ample swimming space, live rock, and hiding spots. It is suitable for most reef aquariums and is considered reef-safe. The recommended water parameters include a temperature of 72-78°F, pH of 8.1-8.4, and a specific gravity of 1.020-1.025. Overall, the Scopas Tang is a moderately difficult fish to care for, requiring a dedicated hobbyist with the appropriate aquarium setup and knowledge of its dietary and behavioral needs.
