Overview: The Chocolate Cichlid, with its mesmerizing hues ranging from deep browns to vibrant yellows, adds a touch of elegance and warmth to any aquarium. These peaceful giants, reaching up to 8 inches in length, are known for their gentle demeanor and striking appearance.

Origin: Native to the soft, acidic waters of the Amazon River basin in South America, the Chocolate Cichlid thrives in environments that mimic their natural habitat, rich in tannins and hidden spots.

Feeding: Omnivorous by nature, Chocolate Cichlids appreciate a varied diet. Offer a mix of high-quality cichlid pellets, frozen or live foods such as bloodworms, brine shrimp, and occasional vegetable matter to ensure optimal health and coloration.

Tank Mates: While generally peaceful, their size demands respect. Suitable tank mates include other similarly sized South American cichlids, larger tetras, and robust catfish. Avoid overly aggressive species or very small fish that might be seen as prey.

Aggression: Typically peaceful, Chocolate Cichlids may show territorial behavior during breeding. Providing ample space and hiding spots can mitigate most aggressive tendencies.

Experience Level: Intermediate. While not overly demanding, maintaining the soft, acidic water conditions they prefer requires some experience with aquarium chemistry and care.

We operate a UK wide next day delivery service available through DX overnight, a DEFRA registered courier. All our fish are packed in double thickness bags for safety and filled with pure oxygen. The bags are then wrapped in a foil blanket with heat packs to keep them warm. They are then packed in a large polystyrene box with a cardboard outer. All our fish are booked with the courier as “live fish” and travel in security cages throughout their journey. All fish are only in the box for a maximum of 18 hours which is our service level agreement with the courier. Your delivery date will be communicated to you via email within 24 hours of purchase and your tracking information will be sent to you directly via email by DX the evening before your scheduled delivery date. Please contact us if you would like to change your delivery date to a more convenient time. Deliveries are made on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday every week. We will always try our very best to get your order to you as quickly and as safely as possible.
