Cupid Cichlid Biotodoma Cupido 5cm

Overview:
The Cupid Cichlid, scientifically known as Biotodoma cupido, is a captivating and relatively peaceful species that adds a touch of elegance to any freshwater aquarium. With its subtle yet striking coloration and graceful swimming behavior, this fish is a favorite among aquarists who appreciate its serene presence. Typically reaching up to 4 inches in length, the Cupid Cichlid boasts a body coloration that ranges from soft, silvery hues to more pronounced green and blue iridescence, especially during breeding.

Origin:
Native to the soft, acidic waters of the Amazon River Basin in South America, the Cupid Cichlid is found in slow-moving rivers and streams. Its natural habitat is characterized by a plethora of submerged vegetation and a sandy or muddy substrate, providing ample hiding spots and breeding grounds.

Feeding:
The Cupid Cichlid is an omnivore with a preference for a varied diet. In captivity, they thrive on a mix of high-quality flake foods, pellets, and frozen or live foods such as brine shrimp, bloodworms, and daphnia. Feeding a balanced diet ensures proper growth and vibrant coloration.

Tank Mates:
Given its generally peaceful demeanor, the Cupid Cichlid does well with a variety of tank mates. Ideal companions include similarly sized and temperament species such as tetras, rasboras, small catfish, and other non-aggressive cichlids. Avoid housing with overly aggressive fish that may bully or stress them.

Aggression:
Cupid Cichlids exhibit minimal aggression, making them a suitable choice for a community aquarium. However, during breeding, they can become territorial. Providing ample space and hiding places can mitigate this behavior.

Experience Level:
This species is well-suited for aquarists of intermediate experience levels. While not overly demanding, maintaining stable water conditions and a stress-free environment is crucial for their wellbeing.

Water Parameters:
To mimic their natural habitat, maintain water temperatures between 76°F and 84°F (24°C – 29°C), with a pH range of 6.0 to 7.5, and soft to moderately hard water. Regular water changes and good filtration are essential to keep nitrate levels low and ensure the health of these delicate fish.

Incorporating Cupid Cichlids into your aquarium not only brings a piece of the Amazon into your home but also provides a serene and beautiful focal point. With proper care, these cichlids can be a rewarding addition to any freshwater setup.
