Dwarf Pike Cichlid Crenicichla Notopthalmus 5cm

Overview: The Dwarf Pike Cichlid, Crenicichla notophthalmus, is a captivating and moderately sized freshwater fish that charms aquarists with its striking appearance and intriguing behaviors. Despite its name, it is a robust species, known for its elongated body, vibrant coloration, and unique hunting style. This species offers a glimpse into the dynamic world of South American cichlids, making it a prized addition to any aquarium.

Origin: Native to the clear streams and rivers of South America, particularly in regions stretching from Venezuela to Brazil. This fish thrives in environments with plenty of hiding spots provided by rocks, driftwood, and dense vegetation, mimicking its natural habitat is key to its well-being in captivity.

Feeding: Crenicichla notophthalmus is primarily carnivorous, showing a preference for live or frozen foods such as brine shrimp, bloodworms, and small fish. A varied diet will ensure optimal health and coloration. Feed moderately to avoid overfeeding and maintain water quality.

Tank Mates: Choosing the right tank mates is crucial due to its semi-aggressive nature. Suitable companions include larger tetras, robust barbs, and other cichlids that can hold their own. Avoid very small fish that could be seen as prey. Always monitor interactions to ensure a harmonious community aquarium.

Aggression: This species exhibits territorial behavior, especially during breeding. Providing ample space and visual barriers can help mitigate aggression. A tank of at least 55 gallons is recommended to accommodate their territory needs and swimming behavior.

Experience Level: Suited for intermediate to advanced aquarists. Its specific care requirements, sensitivity to water quality, and semi-aggressive temperament necessitate a level of experience in fish keeping.
