Eheim SUBSTRAT biological filter media
Eheim SUBSTRAT is Eheim’s standard biological filter media. This is a highly porous filter material made from sintered glass and it has a large surface for bacteria to colonise (450 m² per litre). Suitable for use in most external canister and sump filters
SUBSTRAT needs to be placed in the filter after the mechanical media and can be built up in one or more layers. SUBSTRAT is washable and can be used several times. Suitable for both fresh and saltwater.
Top tip:
It is advisable that you clean the filter medias in old aquarium water during maintenance. Do NOT clean the filter medias in tap water as chlorine and chloramines will remove the beneficial nitrifying bacteria that have colonised during the maturation of the aquarium.
