Five Potted Plants Umbrella Fern Selaginella Wildenowii

Overview: The Umbrella Fern, scientifically known as Selaginella wildenowii, is a unique and visually striking plant admired for its iridescent blue-green fronds that resemble tiny ferns or delicate lace. This versatile plant can be grown both submerged in aquariums or as a terrarium plant, making it a popular choice for aquascaping and vivariums.

Origin: Native to the tropical regions of Southeast Asia, Selaginella wildenowii thrives in humid, shaded environments like rainforests and riverbanks. It naturally grows in moist, well-drained soils and can adapt to various conditions when properly cared for.

Experience Level: Intermediate. While the Umbrella Fern is not overly difficult to care for, it does require specific conditions to thrive, particularly when grown submerged. It is best suited for aquarists and plant enthusiasts with some experience in maintaining tropical plants and aquatic environments.

Water Parameters: When grown submerged in an aquarium, the Umbrella Fern prefers soft, slightly acidic to neutral water with a pH range of 6.0-7.5 and a temperature between 68-78°F (20-26°C). It requires low to moderate lighting, as too much direct light can cause the plant to wither. Humidity is key if grown in a terrarium, along with a moist, well-drained substrate.

In summary, the Umbrella Fern (Selaginella wildenowii) is a captivating and versatile plant that can add a touch of exotic beauty to both aquariums and terrariums. With the right care, it can become a stunning focal point in any setup.
