Gallagher’s Thorny Catfish Rhinodoras Gallagheri 15cm

Originating from the pristine waters of South America, these mesmerizing creatures boast a captivating blend of elegance and intrigue.

Overview: Gallagher’s Thorny Catfish, scientifically known as Rhinodoras Gallagheri, is a unique species that enchants enthusiasts with its thorny exterior and charismatic presence. Sporting an intricate pattern of spines along its body, this catfish is a true testament to the diversity found in the aquatic realm.

Origin: Hailing from the clear waters of South America, specifically in the Amazon River basin, Gallagher’s Thorny Catfish thrives in slow-moving tributaries and pristine environments. Its natural habitat offers clues on how to recreate the ideal conditions in a captive setting.

Feeding: These omnivores exhibit a versatile palate, relishing both live and frozen foods. A well-balanced diet comprising high-quality pellets, bloodworms, and brine shrimp will keep your Thorny Catfish content and thriving. Ensure a varied diet to promote optimal health and vibrancy.

Tank Mates: Known for their peaceful disposition, Gallagher’s Thorny Catfish can coexist harmoniously with a variety of tank mates. Compatible companions include similarly sized non-aggressive fish such as tetras, rasboras, and other community dwellers. Exercise caution with larger, more boisterous species to prevent potential stress.

Aggression: Blessed with a gentle demeanor, these catfish are unlikely to engage in aggressive behavior. Their thorny exterior serves as a defense mechanism rather than a means of offense. However, it’s always wise to provide adequate hiding spots to ensure a stress-free environment.

Experience Level: Ideal for both intermediate and experienced aquarists, Gallagher’s Thorny Catfish presents a moderate level of care. While they are relatively undemanding, attention to water quality, proper nutrition, and a thoughtfully designed tank will contribute to their well-being.

Water Parameters: Maintaining water conditions reflective of their native habitat is crucial. Aim for a pH range of 6.0-7.5, a temperature of 75-82°F (24-28°C), and soft to moderately hard water with a dGH of 5-15. Regular water testing and changes are key to ensuring a thriving environment for these captivating catfish.

Bring the allure of the Amazon into your aquarium with Gallagher’s Thorny Catfish—a species that promises a touch of exotic charm and tranquility to your underwater oasis.
