Geophagus Satanoperca Jurupari 4cm

Overview: The Geophagus Satanoperca Jurupari, commonly referred to as the Eartheater Cichlid, is a fascinating and visually striking species that adds a touch of elegance to any freshwater aquarium. Renowned for its unique behavior of sifting through the substrate to find food, this species showcases a blend of beauty and intriguing habits. With a serene demeanor and a body adorned with subtle hues and patterns, the Jurupari is a captivating addition to any aquatic collection.

Origin: Native to the Amazon River Basin, this species thrives in a variety of freshwater environments. From slow-moving rivers to tranquil backwaters, the Geophagus Satanoperca Jurupari is well-adapted to life in diverse aquatic settings, making it a resilient and adaptable species for aquarium enthusiasts.

Feeding: The Jurupari Eartheater is an omnivore with a preference for a diet that includes both plant-based and meaty foods. High-quality pellets, flakes, and live or frozen foods such as bloodworms and brine shrimp will ensure a balanced diet. Their unique feeding behavior requires a sandy substrate in the aquarium to allow for their natural sifting habits.

Tank Mates: This species is generally peaceful and can be housed with a variety of tank mates. Ideal companions include other South American cichlids of similar size, tetras, and catfish. Avoid housing with overly aggressive species to maintain harmony within the tank.

Aggression: Geophagus Satanoperca Jurupari exhibits minimal aggression and is considered one of the more peaceful cichlids. It is important, however, to provide ample space and hiding spots within the aquarium to prevent any potential stress or territorial disputes.

Experience Level: Suitable for intermediate to advanced aquarists, the Jurupari Eartheater requires some knowledge of cichlid care and aquarium maintenance. Understanding their unique dietary needs and environmental preferences is key to keeping these beautiful fish healthy and vibrant.

Water Parameters: To mimic their natural habitat, maintain water temperatures between 76°F and 84°F (24°C to 29°C), with a pH range of 6.0 to 7.5. Soft to moderately hard water is ideal, and regular water changes are recommended to keep parameters stable and the environment clean.

Adding the Geophagus Satanoperca Jurupari to your aquarium not only brings a piece of the Amazon home but also provides a unique opportunity to observe one of nature’s most intriguing feeding behaviors. With proper care, this species will thrive and become a cherished member of your aquatic family.
