Malaysian Golden Head Golden Crossback Arowana Scleropages Formosus 20cm

Overview: The Malaysian Golden Head Golden Crossback Arowana is a prestigious and visually striking freshwater fish, renowned for its vibrant golden hues and the distinctive “crossback” pattern that extends across its body and over the top of its spine. This fish is highly sought after by aquarists and collectors due to its majestic appearance and the belief in its ability to bring good luck and prosperity.

Origin: Native to the waters of Malaysia, this species of Arowana thrives in slow-moving rivers and lakes. Its natural habitat is characterized by soft, acidic water, and it is found in regions with dense vegetation and submerged roots, which provide both shelter and hunting grounds.

Feeding: A carnivorous species, the Golden Head Golden Crossback Arowana prefers a diet rich in protein. In captivity, it should be fed a variety of foods including live or frozen fish, shrimp, and insects, as well as specially formulated pellets or sticks designed for large carnivorous fish. Feeding should be moderate to ensure optimal health and coloration.

Tank Mates: Due to its size and predatory nature, careful consideration must be given when selecting tank mates. Suitable companions include large, peaceful species that are not small enough to be considered prey. Avoid overly aggressive fish that may incite conflict.

Aggression: This Arowana is territorial and can exhibit aggression towards other fish, especially those of similar or smaller size. It is best kept singly or with significantly larger or different types of fish to minimize stress and aggression in the tank.

Experience Level: Due to its specific care requirements and potential size, the Malaysian Golden Head Golden Crossback Arowana is recommended for experienced aquarists. Knowledge of proper tank setup, water quality management, and dietary needs is essential for the well-being of this majestic fish.

Water Parameters:

  • Temperature: 75°F to 86°F (24°C to 30°C)
  • pH: 5.0 to 7.0
  • Hardness: Soft to moderately hard water is preferred Regular water changes and filtration are crucial to maintain water quality, especially considering the large bioload this fish can produce.

Conclusion: The Malaysian Golden Head Golden Crossback Arowana is a jewel among freshwater fish, offering both beauty and a fascinating presence to any suitable aquarium. With proper care, it can become the centerpiece of a collection, embodying both the natural elegance and the mystique of the waters from which it originates.
