Description

L172 Golden Vampire Pleco leporacanthicus Heterodon 6cm

Overview: The L172 Golden Vampire Pleco is a stunning and unique addition to any aquarium. Known for its striking golden coloration and pronounced teeth that resemble a vampire’s, this species adds both beauty and intrigue to your tank. Growing up to 10 inches in length, it’s a medium-sized pleco that demands attention.

Origin: Native to the fast-flowing rivers of South America, particularly in Venezuela, the Golden Vampire Pleco thrives in environments with strong current and plenty of hiding spots. Its natural habitat influences its care requirements in captivity, emphasizing the need for a well-structured aquarium.

Feeding: Primarily a carnivore, the L172 prefers a diet rich in protein. Offer a variety of foods such as bloodworms, brine shrimp, and high-quality sinking pellets. While it may consume some algae and detritus, supplementing its diet with meaty foods is essential for its health.

Tank Mates: Compatible with most community fish, the Golden Vampire Pleco does well with species that occupy the upper parts of the tank. Avoid overly aggressive fish or those small enough to be considered prey. Ideal tank mates include larger tetras, peaceful cichlids, and other plecos that do not compete for territory.

Aggression: This species exhibits territorial behavior, especially towards other bottom-dwellers. Provide ample hiding places and enough space to prevent disputes. It’s generally peaceful towards non-competitors and makes a great addition to a community tank when its space is respected.

Experience Level: Due to its specific dietary and environmental needs, the L172 is best suited for intermediate to advanced aquarists. Knowledge of maintaining a balanced diet and stable water parameters is crucial for the well-being of this pleco.

Water Parameters:

  • Temperature: 76-82°F (24-28°C)
  • pH: 6.5-7.5
  • Hardness: 5-15 dGH
  • Water flow: Moderate to high, mimicking its natural riverine habitat

Ensure the tank is well-oxygenated and perform regular water changes to maintain optimal water quality.

Conclusion: The L172 Golden Vampire Pleco is a mesmerizing species that brings both aesthetic appeal and a touch of the exotic to any aquarium. With proper care and attention to its needs, this pleco can thrive and become a centerpiece of your aquatic community.
