L177 Queen Gold Seam Golden Nugget Pleco Baryancistrus Xanthellus

Overview: The L177 Queen Gold Seam Golden Nugget Pleco, scientifically known as Baryancistrus xanthellus, is a breathtaking pleco species characterized by its dark body adorned with vibrant golden spots and a striking gold seam along the edges of its fins. This visually captivating bottom-dweller is a true showstopper in any aquarium.

Origin: Native to the clear, fast-flowing waters of the Rio Xingu in Brazil, the L177 Golden Nugget Pleco inhabits rocky riverbeds with strong currents and plenty of hiding spots. This pleco is well-adapted to environments with high oxygen levels and clean, well-maintained water.

Feeding: The L177 Golden Nugget Pleco is primarily herbivorous, with a diet that should include high-quality sinking algae wafers, spirulina-based pellets, and fresh vegetables like zucchini, cucumber, and spinach. While primarily a plant-eater, it also benefits from occasional protein sources such as bloodworms or brine shrimp.

Tank Mates: This peaceful pleco can be housed with other non-aggressive species, making it an excellent addition to a community tank. Suitable tank mates include tetras, rasboras, Corydoras catfish, and peaceful cichlids. Ensure the tank has plenty of hiding spots like caves and driftwood to provide security and reduce territorial disputes.

Aggression: The L177 Golden Nugget Pleco is generally peaceful but can become territorial with other bottom-dwellers, especially other plecos. Providing ample space and multiple hiding places will help minimize any potential aggression.

Experience Level: Intermediate. While the L177 Pleco is hardy, it requires specific conditions, such as clean, well-oxygenated water with strong filtration and moderate to strong water flow. Aquarists with some experience in maintaining these parameters will find this pleco a rewarding and stunning addition to their tank.

Water Parameters: To keep L177 Plecos healthy, maintain water temperatures between 77-84°F (25-29°C), a pH of 6.5-7.5, and soft to slightly hard water (5-15 dGH). A well-filtered tank with a strong current, plenty of hiding spots, and a sandy or smooth substrate that mimics their natural rocky habitat is ideal.

In summary, the L177 Queen Gold Seam Golden Nugget Pleco is a visually striking and peaceful species that adds a touch of luxury and elegance to any aquarium. With its unique appearance and manageable care requirements, it’s a perfect choice for intermediate aquarists looking to enhance their aquatic display with a true gem of a pleco.
