L90a Ojo Chico Papa Pleco Panaque Bathyphilus 10cm

Overview: The L90a Ojo Chico Papa Pleco, scientifically known as Panaque bathyphilus, is a captivating and rare species in the aquarium hobby. Renowned for its unique appearance, this pleco displays a beautiful array of colors and patterns, including dark body hues accented with lighter spots, which can vary from individual to individual. They possess a robust body shape, strong mouthparts for wood grazing, and are known for their peaceful demeanor, making them an excellent addition to many freshwater aquarium setups.

Origin: Native to the fast-flowing rivers and streams of South America, particularly in Colombia and Peru, the L90a Ojo Chico Papa Pleco thrives in environments with plenty of hiding spots and natural driftwood. They are adapted to life in water with strong currents, which aids in their development of a strong, muscular physique.

Feeding: The diet of the L90a Ojo Chico Papa Pleco should primarily consist of wood, as they are natural wood grazers. However, their diet can be supplemented with high-quality sinking pellets, vegetables such as zucchini, peas, and cucumber, and occasional protein sources like bloodworms or brine shrimp to ensure a balanced nutrition.

Tank Mates: This species is generally peaceful and can coexist with a wide variety of tank mates. Ideal companions include small to medium-sized fish, other peaceful bottom dwellers, and species that prefer the middle to upper levels of the aquarium. It is advisable to avoid overly aggressive fish that may stress or harm the plecos.

Aggression: L90a Ojo Chico Papa Plecos are known for their peaceful nature and are rarely aggressive towards other tank mates. However, like many plecos, they can be territorial with other bottom-dwelling fish, especially those of their own species, so it is important to provide ample space and hiding places within the aquarium.

Experience Level: Due to their specific dietary and environmental needs, the L90a Ojo Chico Papa Pleco is best suited for intermediate to advanced aquarium hobbyists. Proper tank setup, including the addition of driftwood for grazing, and maintaining water quality are essential for their care.

Water Parameters:

  • Temperature: 76-86°F (24-30°C)
  • pH: 6.5-7.5
  • Hardness: 6-10 dGH
  • Strong water flow and high oxygen levels are beneficial, mimicking their natural riverine habitats.

By providing the L90a Ojo Chico Papa Pleco with a suitable environment, a proper diet, and compatible tank mates, aquarium enthusiasts can enjoy the unique beauty and interesting behavior of this rare pleco species.
