Description
Metallic Green Favites Hard Coral
The Metallic Green Favites Hard Coral is a large polyp stony (LPS) coral that originates from the reefs of Australia and East Asia. It has an encrusting base and its polyps can come in a variety of shapes and sizes, including circular “pineapple” patterns.
The polyps are typically green in color with metallic or iridescent undertones.
Favites corals are considered moderately aggressive, expanding their sweeper tentacles at night to defend their territory.
It is important to leave adequate space between them and other corals in the reef aquarium.
They require moderate lighting and water flow, and benefit from the addition of calcium, strontium, and other trace elements to the water.
Supplemental feeding with micro-plankton or brine shrimp twice a week can also be beneficial.
Favites corals are relatively easy to care for, making them suitable for both beginner and experienced reef aquarium hobbyists.
They thrive in water temperatures between 72-78°F, specific gravity of 1.023-1.025, pH of 8.1-8.4, and alkalinity (dKH) of 8-12.
