Description

Nothobranchius Eggersi Blue Killifish 3cm

Overview: The Nothobranchius Eggersi Blue Killifish, a captivating and vibrant addition to any freshwater aquarium, boasts a dazzling array of colors, with males displaying brilliant blue hues that truly stand out. This species is known for its unique lifecycle and breeding behavior, making it a fascinating subject for hobbyists. They reach an adult size of around 2 to 2.5 inches, making them suitable for a variety of tank sizes.

Origin: Native to East Africa, Nothobranchius Eggersi thrives in temporary water bodies that dry up seasonally. This unique habitat has led them to develop a life cycle that is closely tied to the rainy and dry seasons, with eggs capable of surviving periods of drought.

Feeding: Nothobranchius Eggersi is primarily carnivorous, requiring a diet rich in protein. They thrive on a variety of live and frozen foods, such as brine shrimp, bloodworms, and daphnia. A varied diet is key to maintaining their vibrant colors and overall health.

Tank Mates: When selecting tank mates, opt for peaceful species that will not outcompete them for food or become aggressive. Small schooling fish and similarly sized, non-aggressive species make ideal companions. It is important to avoid larger or more dominant fish that may bully or stress them.

Aggression: Males can be somewhat territorial, especially during breeding periods. It’s recommended to keep them in a species-specific tank or with plenty of space and hiding spots if housed with other fish to minimize potential aggression.

Experience Level: Due to their unique breeding requirements and sensitivity to water quality, Nothobranchius Eggersi is best suited for intermediate to advanced aquarium hobbyists who are prepared to meet their specific care needs.

Water Parameters:

  • Temperature: 72°F to 75°F (22°C to 24°C)
  • pH: 6.0 to 7.5
  • Hardness: Soft to medium
  • It is crucial to maintain clean and stable water conditions, as they are sensitive to changes in water quality. Regular water changes and a well-maintained filter are essential to keep these killifish healthy.

This striking species offers a unique challenge and rewarding experience for the dedicated aquarist. With their bright colors and interesting behavior, Nothobranchius Eggersi Blue Killifish make a stunning and intriguing addition to any freshwater aquarium.
