Ocellated Kribensis Cichlid Pelvicachromis Subocellatus 4cm

Overview: The Ocellated Kribensis Cichlid, scientifically known as Pelvicachromis subocellatus, is a small, colorful, and peaceful dwarf cichlid. Renowned for its vibrant colors and distinct eye-spot markings, this species is a popular choice for community aquariums. It is particularly prized for its engaging behavior and ease of care.

Origin: Native to the slow-moving rivers, streams, and floodplains of West Africa, particularly in countries like Nigeria and Cameroon, the Ocellated Kribensis inhabits areas with dense vegetation, submerged roots, and soft substrates.

Feeding: Ocellated Kribensis are omnivores and thrive on a varied diet. They should be fed a combination of high-quality flakes or pellets, along with live or frozen foods such as bloodworms, brine shrimp, and daphnia. They also benefit from the occasional vegetable matter like blanched spinach or peas.

Tank Mates: These peaceful cichlids are well-suited for community tanks with other small, non-aggressive species. Good tank mates include tetras, rasboras, small gouramis, and other dwarf cichlids. They do best in pairs and should be provided with ample hiding spots to reduce stress.

Aggression: Ocellated Kribensis are generally peaceful but can become territorial during breeding. Outside of breeding periods, they coexist well with other tank mates. Providing plenty of hiding spaces and plants will help minimize any potential territorial disputes.

Experience Level: Beginner to Intermediate. The Ocellated Kribensis is relatively hardy and easy to care for, making it suitable for aquarists with some experience. Their adaptability and peaceful nature make them an excellent choice for community tanks.

Water Parameters: To keep Ocellated Kribensis healthy, maintain water temperatures between 75-82°F (24-28°C), a pH of 6.0-7.5, and soft to moderately hard water (4-15 dGH). A tank with plenty of plants, caves, and a soft substrate will create an ideal environment for these cichlids.

In summary, the Ocellated Kribensis Cichlid is a colorful and peaceful species that adds beauty and personality to any aquarium. Their manageable care requirements and compatibility with other peaceful fish make them a popular choice for community tanks.
