Description

Orange Checkerboard Wrasse Macropharyngodon Ornatus

The Orange Checkerboard Wrasse (Macropharyngodon ornatus) is a vibrant and active wrasse species that originates from the Indo-Pacific region. These wrasses are known for their striking orange and black checkerboard pattern, which makes them a visually stunning addition to any reef aquarium. In terms of feeding, the Orange Checkerboard Wrasse is an omnivore that primarily consumes small invertebrates, such as crustaceans and mollusks, as well as some algae. They are well-suited for reef aquariums, as they will not typically harass or nip at corals or other sessile invertebrates. When it comes to tank mates, the Orange Checkerboard Wrasse is generally peaceful and can be kept with other medium-sized, non-aggressive fish species. However, they may become territorial towards other wrasses, so it’s best to keep them as a single specimen or in a mated pair.1Regarding the experience level required to keep this fish, the Orange Checkerboard Wrasse is considered an intermediate-level species. They require a well-established, mature aquarium with ample hiding places and a varied diet to thrive. The recommended water parameters for their optimal care include a pH of 8.1-8.4, a temperature range of 72-82°F, and a specific gravity of 1.020-1.025.
