Birdmouth Wrasse Gomphosus Caeruleus Male

Overview The Birdmouth Wrasse, also known as Gomphosus Caeruleus, is a beautiful and interesting fish suitable for beginners. It requires a large tank with plenty of room to accommodate its constant roaming nature. This species is known for its hardy and disease-resistant nature, making it relatively easy to care for.

Origin The Birdmouth Wrasse is found in the Indian Ocean and the Red Sea and is often confused with another bird wrasse species, the Green Birdmouth Wrasse. It inhabits dense coral areas of lagoons and seaward reefs at depths of 6 to 98 feet.

Feeding Habits These wrasses use their bird beak-like snouts to feed on small bottom-dwelling crustaceans, small fish, brittle stars, and mollusks. They require a hardy diet of vitamin-enriched frozen brine and mysid shrimp preparations, small bits of fresh or frozen meaty seafood, and frozen silversides. It is recommended to feed this fish three times a day.

Suitable Tank Mates The Birdmouth Wrasse is considered semi-aggressive and should not be mixed with other elongated fish. It is a great addition to a predatory reef tank and is passive toward fish that it does not view as prey.

Aggression Level This species is semi-aggressive towards its food but generally passive toward other fish. Only one male Birdmouth Wrasse should be kept in an aquarium, and a male-female pair should be added at the same time, introducing the female first.

Recommended Experience Level This fish is suitable for beginners, but it is important to choose smaller individuals that will adapt better to captivity.

Water Parameters The Birdmouth Wrasse requires well-oxygenated water that is brisk and aerated due to its high energy. It is important to maintain suitable water parameters, including natural seawater conditions, to ensure its optimal care.
