Freshwater Motoro Stingray Potamotrygon Motoro 20cm

Overview: The Freshwater Motoro Stingray, scientifically known as Potamotrygon Motoro, is a mesmerizing addition to any large home aquarium. Renowned for its unique patterns and graceful movements, this species offers an unparalleled visual spectacle. They possess a disc-shaped body with a stunning coloration that varies from orange to olive green, adorned with beautiful black spots and rings. Motoro Stingrays can reach up to 24 inches in diameter, making them a significant presence in any aquatic environment.

Origin: Native to the freshwater rivers and estuaries of South America, particularly the Amazon and Orinoco basins, the Motoro Stingray thrives in environments that mimic their natural habitat. Their adaptability has made them a cherished species among aquarists worldwide.

Feeding: These rays are carnivorous and require a diet rich in meaty foods. Preferred options include earthworms, shrimp, pieces of fish, and specially formulated feeds for carnivorous freshwater species. Feeding should be varied to ensure optimal health and vitality.

Tank Mates: Choosing the right tank mates for Motoro Stingrays is crucial due to their size and dietary habits. Ideal companions include large, peaceful fish that dwell in the upper parts of the aquarium. Aggressive or overly active fish should be avoided to prevent stress. Small fish may be seen as prey and should not be housed with Motoro Stingrays.

Aggression: Motoro Stingrays are generally peaceful towards other large fish but can be territorial with their own kind or similar bottom-dwelling species. Adequate space and hiding spots can minimize aggression in a well-structured aquarium.

Experience Level: Due to their specific care requirements and size, Motoro Stingrays are recommended for intermediate to advanced aquarists. Successfully keeping this species requires a commitment to maintaining water quality and providing a spacious environment.

Water Parameters:

  • Temperature: 75°F to 82°F (24°C to 28°C)

  • Aquarium Size: Minimum 180 gallons for a single specimen, with a soft sandy substrate to protect their undersides.

Providing a meticulously curated environment that mirrors their natural habitat is essential for the health and happiness of the Freshwater Motoro Stingray. With proper care, they make a fascinating and rewarding addition to the aquatic community.
