Overview

Slow-moving and peaceful, it is an excellent addition to community aquariums with sandy or soft substrates, providing interest at the lower levels of the tank.

Origin

Native to northern Australia and southern New Guinea, inhabiting rivers, creeks, and still or slow-moving waters with sandy or muddy bottoms and abundant cover.

Feeding

Carnivorous and adaptable. Accepts sinking pellets, frozen foods (bloodworms, brine shrimp, mysis), and small live foods. Requires a protein-rich diet to maintain health and coloration.

Tank Mates

Peaceful with similar-sized fish. Can be housed with rainbowfish, hardy tetras, cichlids, and other non-aggressive species. Avoid very small fish or invertebrates that may be considered prey.

Aggression

Generally peaceful. May defend a small territory on the substrate, but conflicts are minimal if sufficient space is provided.

Experience Level

Intermediate. Requires a well-maintained aquarium with clean water and ample hiding spaces.
