Timor Wrasse Halichoeres Timorensis

Overview
The Timor Wrasse, native to shallow coastal reefs of Sri Lanka and Indonesia, is a pearly blue-green fish adorned with vibrant orange dots and dashes. This species is sought after for its active and colorful presence in a reef aquarium and its ability to control nuisance red Planaria flatworms and pyramidellid snails.

Feeding Habits
Being carnivorous, the Timor Wrasse actively hunts tiny crustaceans throughout the day. Its diet should consist of various meaty preparations such as brine shrimp, mysis shrimp, and other mixed frozen foods. It’s essential to soak these foods in vitamin and fatty acid supplements to meet its high metabolic needs. Multiple, small feedings per day are recommended.

Suitable Tank Mates
The Timor Wrasse requires a moderately-sized to fine sandy substrate for protection and will appreciate rock work and crevices to swim through and around. It’s known for its peaceful nature and can coexist with a variety of tank mates.

Aggression Level
While the Timor Wrasse may exhibit boisterous behavior, it is generally peaceful. However, careful monitoring is advised, especially when introducing it to an existing wrasse community.

Experience Level
Due to its moderate care level, the Timor Wrasse is suitable for aquarists with some experience in maintaining a reef aquarium. An established, minimum 90-gallon aquarium with a tight-fitting lid is necessary, as these wrasses are known to jump out of aquariums.

Water Parameters
Maintaining optimal water conditions, including appropriate temperature, salinity, and pH levels, is essential for the well-being of the Timor Wrasse. A deep sand bed and a fully covered aquarium are also vital for its care.
