Overview: The Gudgeon, scientifically known as Gobio Gobio, is a small, slender freshwater fish that is a popular choice for aquarium enthusiasts. Known for their peaceful nature and interesting behavior, Gudgeons typically reach a length of around 10 cm (4 inches). They have a silver-grey body with a distinct lateral line and small, rounded fins.
Origin: Native to Europe and parts of Asia, Gudgeons are commonly found in streams, rivers, and lakes with slow to moderate flow. They prefer habitats with a gravel or sandy substrate where they can search for food.
Feeding: Gudgeons are omnivorous and have a diverse diet. In the aquarium, they readily accept a variety of foods, including flake food, small pellets, freeze-dried foods, and live or frozen foods such as bloodworms and daphnia. It’s important to provide a balanced diet to ensure their health and vitality.
Tank Mates: Gudgeons are peaceful fish and do well in community tanks with other non-aggressive species. Ideal tank mates include small cyprinids, loaches, and other bottom dwellers. Avoid housing them with large or aggressive fish that may bully or prey on them.
Aggression: Gudgeons are generally non-aggressive and coexist peacefully with similarly sized and temperament fish. They can be somewhat territorial during breeding but usually do not display significant aggression.
