Overview: The Roach (Rutilus rutilus) is a popular freshwater fish known for its adaptability and hardy nature. This species exhibits a silver body with red fins, adding a splash of color to any aquarium. Typically reaching up to 35 cm in length, the Roach is a great addition to medium to large-sized tanks.

Origin: Native to Europe and parts of Asia, the Roach thrives in slow-moving rivers, ponds, and lakes. Its natural habitat includes areas with abundant vegetation and a muddy bottom.

Feeding: Roach are omnivorous, feeding on a mix of plant matter, algae, insects, and small invertebrates. In the aquarium, they do well with a varied diet including high-quality flake foods, pellets, and occasional treats like bloodworms or brine shrimp.

Tank Mates: Roach are generally peaceful and can be kept with other similarly sized, non-aggressive fish. Ideal tank mates include barbs, danios, and larger tetras. Avoid housing them with small, timid species or large, aggressive fish.

Aggression: This species is known for its peaceful demeanor. However, males can show mild territorial behavior during breeding season. Providing ample space and hiding spots can mitigate any potential issues.

Experience Level: Roach are suitable for both beginner and experienced aquarists. Their hardiness and adaptability make them a forgiving choice for newcomers while their unique behavior and schooling nature are appreciated by seasoned fish keepers.

We operate a UK wide next day delivery service available through DX overnight, a DEFRA registered courier. All our fish are packed in double thickness bags for safety and filled with pure oxygen. The bags are then wrapped in a foil blanket with heat packs to keep them warm. They are then packed in a large polystyrene box with a cardboard outer. All our fish are booked with the courier as “live fish” and travel in security cages throughout their journey. All fish are only in the box for a maximum of 18 hours which is our service level agreement with the courier. Your delivery date will be communicated to you via email within 24 hours of purchase and your tracking information will be sent to you directly via email by DX the evening before your scheduled delivery date. Please contact us if you would like to change your delivery date to a more convenient time. Deliveries are made on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday every week. We will always try our very best to get your order to you as quickly and as safely as possible.
