Overview: The Tench, often referred to as the “Doctor Fish,” is a freshwater species renowned for its unique healing properties among other fish. Origin: Native to Europe and Western Asia, the Tench thrives in slow-moving or still waters, such as lakes, ponds, and canals. It prefers a habitat with a muddy bottom, where it can search for food.

Feeding: Omnivorous by nature, the Tench’s diet consists of worms, small invertebrates, and plant matter. In an aquarium setting, they readily accept high-quality pellets, flakes, and live or frozen foods like bloodworms and daphnia.

Tank Mates: The Tench is generally peaceful and can be housed with other non-aggressive fish of similar size. Ideal tank mates include larger tetras, barbs, and other bottom dwellers like loaches and catfish. Avoid housing with small, nippy fish or overly aggressive species.

Aggression: This species is known for its calm demeanor and is rarely aggressive towards other fish. They are social creatures and enjoy the company of their own kind, so keeping them in small groups is beneficial.

We operate a UK wide next day delivery service available through DX overnight, a DEFRA registered courier. All our fish are packed in double thickness bags for safety and filled with pure oxygen. The bags are then wrapped in a foil blanket with heat packs to keep them warm. They are then packed in a large polystyrene box with a cardboard outer. All our fish are booked with the courier as “live fish” and travel in security cages throughout their journey. All fish are only in the box for a maximum of 18 hours which is our service level agreement with the courier. Your delivery date will be communicated to you via email within 24 hours of purchase and your tracking information will be sent to you directly via email by DX the evening before your scheduled delivery date. Please contact us if you would like to change your delivery date to a more convenient time. Deliveries are made on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday every week. We will always try our very best to get your order to you as quickly and as safely as possible.
